What is Linguistics?

4. Semantics:

Semantics focuses on the meaning of language. It studies how words, phrases, and sentences convey meaning, as well as the relationship between meaning and context.

5. Pragmatics:

Pragmatics studies how language is used in different communicative contexts. It considers the role of context, social setting, and communicative purpose in understanding the meaning of speech.

6. Historical Linguistics:

Historical linguistics studies the change of language over time. It investigates the origins, development, and relationships between different languages.

7. Applied Linguistics:

Applied linguistics uses linguistic knowledge to address practical problems, such as language teaching, translation, language analysis in education, and language therapy.
